MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey received all 15 first-place votes and 150 voting points to earn the No. 1 ranking for the 18th consecutive USCHO.com Division III Women's Top-10 Poll, as announced on Monday.
Plattsburgh State (26-1-0) retained its No. 1 ranking after defeating Oswego State, 6-1, in the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) Tournament championship game on Saturday, March 7, at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
The Cardinals, who have held the No. 1 spot in the poll since March 18, 2019, are on an 18-game winning streak. Over its winning streak, Plattsburgh State has outscored its opponents, 94-19, with four of the Cardinals' wins coming against teams that were ranked in the top five of the USCHO.com Division III Women's Top-10 Poll at the time of the game. This season, Plattsburgh State has six wins over teams that were ranked in the top 10 at the time of the contest.
With its victory over Oswego State, Plattsburgh State garnered the NEWHL's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Cardinals, who are making their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance, will host either Amherst College or Norwich University in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, March 14, at 3 p.m. at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. Plattsburgh State has won seven NCAA Division III national championships, including five of the past six, and has advanced to the national semifinals for eight straight seasons.
