SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Plattsburgh junior forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, PA) has earned her second straight Northeast Women's Hockey League's Player of the Week award.
The honor is for games contested from Monday, Feb. 3, through Sunday, Feb. 9, and was announced by the NEWHL on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Katonka tallied two power-play goals (one game-winner) and one assist for three points with 15 shots on goal and a +2 rating as No. 1 Plattsburgh (21-1-0, 16-0-0 NEWHL) swept Cortland in a two-game series over the weekend.
The twin victories extended the Cardinals' winning streak to 13 games as they remained undefeated in NEWHL play.
Katonka began the weekend with one goal, one assist, two points and a +1 rating in Plattsburgh's 3-2 win over Cortland on Friday, Feb. 7. She also won 74 percent (14 of 19) of her face-offs in the victory.
Katonka scored the first goal of the game on the power play at 13:52 of the first period, and she assisted on Sara Krauseneck's power-play goal as Plattsburgh took a 2-0 lead at 1:14 of the second.
She then tallied the game-winning goal and turned in a +1 rating with 12 face-off wins as Plattsburgh completed the series sweep of Cortland with a 5-0 win on Saturday, Feb. 8. Katonka's game-winning goal came on the power play at 11:04 of the first period.
With her performance last week, Katonka leads the NEWHL in points (33), game-winning goals (5), power-play goals (8) and shots on goal (122).
